Managing Director


A veteran Washington, DC strategic communications professional, Matt Williams joined Strauss Media Strategies as Managing Director in November 2018.  Williams leads the day-to-day operations of the firm and assists President Richard Strauss in business development and strategic planning.

Williams’ 30-year career has included senior level communications experience across several high-profile brands and industries, including sports and entertainment, non-profit and entrepreneurship.


His broad range of experience includes a 22-year career with Washington Sports and Entertainment (Capital One Arena, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, Ticketmaster), where he was Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President of Communications. Williams chaired and led the management team directing the day-to-day operation of Washington Sports and Entertainment    During his tenure at Washington Sports, he was involved in all communications aspects of the organization, including day-to-day media relations for the teams, corporate communications, and internal communications.  Williams was on the launch team for the 20,000-seat Capital One Arena (then Verizon Center), designing and implementing the public relations campaigns during the arena’s construction phase, opening celebration, and annual operations. Williams was also the Director of Broadcasting for the organization, producing two long-running television shows (winning two Capital Region Emmy Awards), developing radio networks, and handling the relationships with television and radio rights holders. 

Prior to joining Strauss Media Strategies, Matt was the Chief Communications Officer and Senior Director of Communications for the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) and Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA), a premier non-profit animal welfare organization responsible for touching the lives of 60,000 animals each year.  At HRA, Matt was the primary media contact and spokesperson for the organization and developed and executed popular weekly pet segments on the top radio and television outlets in the Washington, DC market.

Matt was the Vice President of Business Development for Maroon PR, where he was responsible for developing new business for the marketing and public relations firm. Williams began his career with the Atlanta Hawks NBA franchise as the public relations assistant.


Matt received his bachelor’s degree in English from Emory University and resides in Fort Washington, Maryland with his partner Kelly and their rescue dog Lucy.
